PRAISE FOR BRAVE STUDENT REBECCA

-

PRAISE WAS heaped upon Castlebridge woman Rebecca Carter for taking a stand against the education system.

Rebecca won her case and is studying Veterinary Medicine at UCD.

An exam points blunder put her place on the University College Dublin (UCD) course in jeopardy. Rebecca brought High Court proceedings against the State Examination Commission (SEC) over its decision not to recheck her results before mid-October, effectively potentially costing her a place in UCD, which decides its student allocation at the end of September.

Cllr George Lawlor said: ‘We should offer our congratulations to Rebecca Carter, the young lady who took on the system and won quite spectacularly her case.’

Cllr Lawlor said Rebecca’s case was shocking in that it highlighted a system which had potentially wrongly assessed the results of hundreds of students. ‘We should be very proud to have people like her in our community,’ he said, saying a letter should be sent to her congratulating her on her success and praising her courage in taking on the system.
