North county roads funds on the skids

-

Concern was expressed that the council has no money to carry out urgent repair works to roads across north Wexford which were badly damaged in storms earlier in the year. Cllr Malcolm Byrne raised the matter, saying: ‘We are in a situation where we are not able to complete all the roads that we intended to work on this year down to small safety works at the Monument in Gorey. Are we in a situation where there is no money for roads for Gorey, the only district that has managed to stay within budget once again.’ Director of services for Roads Eamonn Hore said it is incorrect to say there is no money left in the roads budget. ‘Like every year we are slightly running ahead of what we have budgeted for.’ He said the council has received no additional funding for roads damaged during the storms, adding that it is unlikely to receive it.
