Doctor! Doctor! HSE called to solve crisis
A representative from the Health Service Executive and Caredoc has been invited to discuss the provision and coverage of GP services in County Wexford following a motion by Cllr Michael Sheehan. The representative will be asked to discuss the contingency plans to maintain the service while replacing those retiring within the next five years. Cllr Sheehan said around a quarter of the county’s doctors are expected to retire over the coming five years. ‘They need to be replacing these doctors and that is not happening right now. It’s not possible to get a doctor’s appointment within a reasonable time-frame. You are now going to see practice’s vanishing in urban areas and the lists are getting bigger and bigger.’ Cllr George Lawlor seconded the motion, which was unanimously supported.
