Beary scores for Ireland amateurs
ADAM BEARY of North End United is the latest soccer international from the county after he hit the fourth goal for the Ireland amateur side in their 4-0 win over Northern Ireland in Frank Cooke Park on Wednesday.
Beary caught the eye during his club’s triumphant FAI Junior Cup campaign last year, and he struck in the 74th minute to seal a commanding win for the side prepared by Gerry Davis.
In other news, the qualification hopes of the Republic of Ireland Under-21 soccer team were ended with a 3-1 defeat to Israel in Akko on Thursday.
New Ross native Ryan Delaney, now plying his trade with Rochdale in League One in England, featured in the heart of the defence for 84 minutes before being replaced by Jamie McGrath.
Meanwhile, Rianna Jarrett played up front for the women’s team in their 4-0 away defeat to Poland in a friendly on Tuesday, their last fixture of 2018.
Her assist created a fine first-half chance for captain Katie McCabe, but the Arsenal star fired wide.
