Appeal against U15 expulsion lost
FETHARD HAVE lost their appeal in an effort to have the decision of Coiste na nOg management overturned.
The club had figured in a controversial Under-15 hurling championship game with Faythe Harriers in Páirc Charman which was abandoned close to additional time.
As a result of the report of match referee, Dan Crosby, the Coiste na nOg management decided to expel the Fethard club from the championship, while also imposing a €500 fine.
A member of the club was also banned for twelve weeks, while a Faythe Harriers player received a two-game ban.
The Fethard club decided to lodge an appeal with the Senior Board’s appeals committee into the
severity of the sanction to expel the club and impose a fine. However, they did not appeal the suspension of the individual.
Now it has emerged that the appeal has been turned down, leaving Fethard out of the championship with the €500 sanction also remaining.
In a further appeal, Monageer-Boolavogue’s Peter Mernagh was partly successful in having his suspension reduced.
Mernagh was banned for 16 weeks by the Wexford C.C.C.C. following the report of referee Paddy Brady into his club’s Junior hurling championship game with Rapparees, for an alleged incident at the end of the game.
Following consideration of the appeal, Mernagh has his ban reduced to twelve weeks.
