OYSTER LANE & WLOS:
OYSTER Lane Theatre Group launched their Opera Festival fringe show ‘Michael Collins - a Musical Drama’ at Slaney Manor where the famous Sliabh na mBan armoured car which transported Collins from Béal na Bláth in 1922 after his death, served as an authentic prop for the occasion.
‘It was a great honour for us to have this national piece of history in Wexford and I have to thank our vice-chairperson Brandon Cogley for all his work in securing it,’ said Oyster Lane chairperson Greg O’ Leary.
The launch attended by the original musical director of the show, David Hayes, a former Riverdance director.
‘Michael Collins-a Musical Drama’ brings to life events from the 1916 Rising, War of Independence and the Irish Civil War and immerses audiences in the revolution that brought tragedy and loss to families and friends caught up in the conflict.
It focuses on the interwoven stories of four extraordinary characters Michael Collins, his adversary Eamon de Valera, his close friend and colleague Harry Boland and the
object of his affections Kitty Kiernan.
The Oyster Lane show stars an AIMS (Association of Irish Musical Societies) award winning cast including Chris Currid as ‘the Big Fella’, Sean Henley as Eamon de Valera, Denis Brennan as Kitty Kiernan, James McDermot as Harry Boland and James Dobbs as Joe Emmet.
The equally impressive production team includes Imelda McDonagh as director. Patrick Clancy as musical director and Suzanne O’ Leary as choreographer.
‘Michael Collins -a Musical Drama’ will be presented in Dun Mhuire Theatre from Monday, October 22 to Saturday, October 27 at 8pm nightly.
