Various motorists banned for 12 months

Judge Gerard Haughton exercised his power to put motorists off the road for 12 months each when they failed to appear at a recent District Court sitting in Wexford as details of their licences were not available.

Andrew Burges, Amesk, Cain, Glogh, Gorey was convicted of a speeding offence after his vehicle was detected being driven at 72 km/h in the 60 km/h zone at Ardcavan on the afternoon of December 22 last.

Graham Shannon, 1 Evans Court, Neville Street, New Ross was convicted of travelling through Tracystown East in Cleariesto­wn on November 27 last at 94 km/h in defiance of the 80 km/h limit.

Alice Cash of 58 Woodbine Close, New Ross was not in court to dispute evidence that she was on the road in The Maudlins, New Ross with a juvenile in the rear seat who had no safety belt in place on May 30 last year.

Mark Shiggins (35) from 21 Vinegar Hill Villas, Enniscorth­y failed to wear his safety belt at Piercestow­n while driving a Daewoo Lanos on November 8 last.

John O’Sullivan, Newtown, Bannow was registered owner of a vehicle which broke the 80 km/h limit at Ballyknock on October 18 last year when a Go-Safe detector van was on duty.

Fines of €300 were also imposed in each case.
