From the adverts: Shaws competition
October 1980
From the pages of the 1980 papers come details of a competition aimed squarely at women, that might raise an eyebrow or two if it were being run today.
Entry was by way of buying a Playtex bra or any other Playtex garment in a Shaw’s outlet before November 15 of that year. And the top prize was what must have been seen at the time as one of the ulimate desires of any ‘decent woman’: it was a new £10,000 fitted kitchen.
There were also five runner-up prizes of new microwave ovens, and 100 third-place prizes of wall-hanging scales.
