Concert raises funds for two community groups
ST PATRICK’S Church in Rosslare Harbour was the venue for a very entertaining, fundraising concert organised by the Kilrane Rosslare Harbour Tops group.
The concert had been originally scheduled for June but was postponed due to some unforeseen circumstances. While the change of date meant that some of the original performers couldn’t commit, organiser Bernie Mullen was satisfied that the programme on the night was a diverse one, with something to suit everyone’s musical tastes.
Over 120 people from the surrounding area attended the event, including Maria and Sean O’Leary, parents of X-Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary.
Just over €1,100 was raised on the night and this donated equally to the St Aidan’s Cemetery Committee and the KRH Tops committee.
Ms Mullen took on the role of Master of Ceremonies on the night, introducing the various acts and guests. A number of regular cast members, including Elaine Pierce, Suzie Maguire, Carmel Doyle, Denis Comerford and Anthony Bates performed solos, while junior members Ella Dempsey and Ciara Power got the chance to perform solo for their first time.
Guest performers included George Lawlor, Tony Carty, Martina Keane, Fintan Cleary, and Emma Hore.
The concert culminated with a big sing-song at the end of the night as kids in the group were invited to take part in a Sing Out Loud rendition, with Tony Carty.
Ms Mullen explained: ‘The main aim with the concert was to support the community by showcasing the talent of the community. I’ve always said that the Tops group has morphed from an arts group into a community organisation.’
She complimented the Cemetery Committee, saying they had done a fantastic job on refurbishing the graveyard, and deserved the support they received.
