WEXFORD LIBRARY, MALLIN STREET Exhibition of two Ros Tapestry panels. The Ros Tapestry is a community based artistic project involving over 150 volunteer stitchers working over 2 years. The project is now nearing completion. The Tapestry consists of 15 large embroidered panels telling the story of the Normans in Ireland and the founding of New Ross. Millions of stitches have drawn in the threads of history in what will be a cultural gift for many generations. WEXFORD COUNTY COUNCIL, CARRICKLAWN War Changes It’s Address: The Aleppo Paintings, a solo exhibition by Brian Maguire, hosted by the Arts Department of Wexford County Council in partnership with Wexford Arts Centre. Acclaimed artist, Brian Maguire, brings together a selection of recent works resulting from a visit to Syria in 2017. A fiercely expressive painter, Maguire’s work essentially emerges from social and political situations as the artist approaches painting as a gesture of solidarity. WEXFORD ARTS CENTRE, CORNMARKET Fractured Crowd, an exhibition of work by Joy Gerrard. Gerrard’s current practice examines and concentrates on protest crowds; their effect on political outcomes and social segregation and systems by which they relate to their surroundings, in particular; with architecture and the
structural environment of cities and towns. Gerrard has taken familiar media-based imagery and recreated the perspective of these scenes, creating a new level of importance through the retelling of historical events and resulting in the production of paintings and drawings in pen and ink, including large scale drawings. KAMERA 8 GALLERY, 5 ROWE STREET LOWER Another Day in Aleppo, a solo exhibition by Syrian photographer Giath Taha. Exploring the complexities and human cost of civil conflict, Taha’s work is both harrowing and poignant. Focusing intimately on those attempting to survive through unimaginable violence and anguish in the destroyed shell of their home, this exhibition allows the public to see through their eyes.
