Paddy and Moyra release new book
A new book featuring beautiful paintings of horses by the Wexford-based contemporary artist Paddy Lennon and accompanying poetry by Moyra Donaldson has just been published.
‘Blood Horses’, telling the stories of three famous stallions – the Byerley Turk, The Darley Arabian and the Godolphin Barb – the founding fathers of the thoroughbred horses of today, arrived in paperback edition a few days ago in Wexford Book Centre while a special limited edition of 200 hardback copies signed by the artist and the poet will be launched at an exhibition in the RDS Library in November.
When County Down poet Moyra saw Paddy’s work, she felt so inspired that she proposed a creative collaboration and horses were an obvious choice as the animals have been an important part of both of their lives.
The book is a moving dialogue between painting and poem that looks at the relationship between humans and horses, the effect they have on our lives and people’s love for the magnificent creatures.
Award-winning visual artist Paddy was born in Dublin and has been living in Kilrane for many years, where his wife Jo Kimmins formerly ran a horse riding centre. He has exhibited in solo and group shows Ireland and internationally, most recently in China, Abu Dhabi and Geneva.
Moyra Donaldson has published seven collections of poetry and has also been published internationally in magazines, journals and anthologies in Europe, Australia and the US. Her new poetry collection Holding to Air will be published next spring. The limited edition of the new book was launched in Northern Ireland in September and there are also plans to take the ‘Blood Horses’ exhibition abroad.
