Blue Light Ball draws 240 to support Hospice

- BY ANNA HAYES

THE FIFTH annual Blue Light Ball drew a crowd of over 240 people to what was a glamorous affair at the Talbot Hotel.

The event, which was revived in 2014, is held in aid of Wexford Hospice Homecare each year and has, over the past four years raised over €25,000 for the charity. Organiser Det Colm Dunne expects that the funds raised this year will be on a par with what came in last year.

The Ball was attended by members of the public as well members of Wexford’s blue- light services. It was new Chief Superintendent’s first big public event since taking up his position and he spoke about the amount of good work Wexford Gardai did that was never publicised.

Also in attendance was Garda Assistant Commissioner Fintan Fanning, Mayor Tony Dempsey, Minister Paul Kehoe,Superintendent Jim Doyle, and Chairman of Wexford Hospice Homecare, Eamon Mernagh.

Speaking at the event, Mr Mernagh thanked all in attendance for their support, pointing out that the cost of running the organisation was €750,000, 80% of which was fundraised locally.

Special congratulations were offered by Supt Doyle to Wexford garda Denis Costello, who had become a kettlebell world champion that day in Latvia.

Det Dunne expressed his gratitude to the event’s main sponsors: Kerlogue Nursing Home, M and T Plant, Skytel, The Wexford People, and Think Print. He also thanked the many local businesses who had contributed to the running costs.

Next year’s Ball will take place on October 4 in the Talbot.
