Gorey to celebrate digital town honour
INTERNET Day will be marked in Gorey with a special Internet Day event to acknowledge it being designated Digital Town 2018 by the IE Domain Registry company.
Gorey was selected Gorey as this year’s Digital Town for its achievements in cultivating a truly digital environment.
Now in its fourth year, Internet Day 2018 will take place in Gorey Co. Wexford on October 25, with an official launch at 10 a.m. in a specially constructed ‘digital dome’ in the Civic Square.
The MC at the event will be entrepreneur and broadcaster, Bobby Kerr, and a keynote address will be delivered at the launch by IE Domain Registry Chief Executive Officer, David Curtin.
That will be followed by a panel discussion based on the theme of ‘how Irish towns can become truly digital’.
The panellists will include: Tony Hanway, CEO of Virgin Media Ireland; Jim Hughes, CEO of Gorey Chamber of Commerce; Louise O’Connor, Chief Digital Officer with Abodoo; Annette Soraine, Board member of Fastrack to IT, and Oonagh McCutcheon, Customer Operations Manager with IE Domain Registry.
From 11 a.m. digital experts will be available to provide free advice and demonstrations to business owners, community groups and members of the public on all digital matters digital including skills, e-commerce, website development and mobile video.
There will also be an opportunity to try out a mixed reality experience on the day which will give people the opportunity to immerse themselves in a 3D painting initiative called Tilt Brush.
A spokesperson for the organisers commented: ‘The freedom to paint in mid-air is a magical experience that unleashes creativity.’
There will also be a short workshop on digital animation.
