Sadness at the death of Christy in accident

PEOPLE throughout the south of the county are in shock this week following a road traffic accident on Saturday that claimed the life of a man in his 80s.

The man, who is from the Ballymitty area and was named locally as Christy Morris, was travelling in the direction of Wellingtonbridge from Wexford town at around 1.25 p.m. when his car was involved in a collision with an oncoming vehicle at Forth-commons.

He was removed from the scene by ambulance to Wexford General Hospital where he passed away a short time later.

Speaking to this newspaper about the accident Inspector Denis Whelan said the Gardai received a report of a serious collision from abulance control at around 1.30 p.m.

‘Upon arrival the members found two vehicles were involved,’ said Inspector Whelan.

It’s believed the two cars involved in the collision were a Toyata Yaris and Renault Clio.

Mr Morris was the driver of one of the cars and there were two occupants in the other vehicle - a female driver in her 20s and a front-seat male passenger also aged in his 20s.

In the immediate aftermath of the accident the scene was sealed off and preserved for a technical examination by the Garda Forensic Collision Investigation unit.

Mr Morris was married and had three children. He was a well-known businessman and was very highly regarded within the community.

Gardai have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward as part of their investigation into the accident.

‘We are appealing for witnesses to come forward who may have been driving in the area at the time,’ said Inspector Whelan.
