Local groups in Rosslare to benefit from split-the-pot
A split-the-pot community initiative in Rosslare Strand has this year raised €8,685 for local initiatives.
The fund helps five local community groups to operate with each of the groups having a big influence in the local community.
The five groups involved are: Lollitots Community Childcare; Cois Barry Community House; Rosslare senior and underage football clubs and the local Tidy Towns organisation.
A spokesperson for the split-the-pot scheme said the different groups enhance the lives of those living locally.
‘Rosslare has a permanent population of over 1,500 people and a holiday home owners’ population of just under 6,000,’ he said.
‘If you add in the mobile home parks and the many thousands of short-stay and day trippers then the effect of this small little group of volunteers is quite extensive,’ he added.
He said the different group members provide a wide range of initiatives in the general Rosslare area from music lessons to soccer coaching.
The committee is composed of: Michael Walsh, David Clancy, Lorna Morris, Ray Flynn, Grainne Gorman and Eleanor Modler.
As the spokesperson pointed out: ‘We all take for granted a clean well kept village but someone has to do it.’
He also pointed out that by supporting the initiative it was a case of local people helping each other.
‘This year the local groups shared €4,500 and they supported the local youth club with a further donation of €500,’ he said.
He went on to comment that the overall prize-money this year ‘was an outstanding €8,685’.
The split-the-pot group also plans to spread Christmas cheer this year by presenting a €500 cheque to the Rosslare Christmas lights committee.
‘We thank all who have supported us this year we hope you and your family will continue to play and we wish you the best of luck,’ said the spokesperson.
‘We would also like to express our gratitude to all the outlets who stock our envelopes,’ he added.
To participate in the scheme people put their name and phone number on a split-the-pot envelope, drop €2 inside, and then place it in the splitthe-pot box.
There is also a multi-draw option which the spokesperson said would be an ideal gift for Christmas. Through that people can ensure either they themselves or friends are included in every draw for the following six or 12 months.
