Young politicians come to town for Labour Youth conference
LABOUR YOUTH’S national conference will be taking place in Clayton White’s Hotel this weekend, beginning on Friday and running until Sunday.
The event is being organised by the Wexford Labour Youth party who say they will take the conference as an opportunity to attract attention to the big issues facing the south east.
Wexford Labour Youth will be putting forward motions about the future of Rosslare Europort; about high levels of unemployment; about reopening mental health services for children in Wexford; about supporting the call for children born in Ireland to be allowed citizenship as a birth right; and about supporting the ‘Pay Our Subcontractors’ campaign.
As well as motions, Wexford members will be running for two of seven positions on Labour Youth’s Executive board.
Wexford branch chairperson, Evin Ryan, will be running for the position of National Secretary/ Treasurer. Evin has been a party member since 2016 and is determined to give Labour Youth a platform across the country and to campaign for new, young Labour candidates in next year’s local elections.
Olivia Malone will be running for the position of National Women & Trans Officer, and was attracted to the party by its stance on Feminism and LGBTQ rights. Olivia is determined to make politics a more comfortable space for women to be active in.
If you would like to attend the conference or get involved with the local group, contact them on Facebook, Twitter or email: labouryouthwexford@gmail.com.
