ATHLETICS NEWS
Juvenile members of St Killian’s AC travelled to the Hub in Enniscorthy on Friday, November 16, to compete in the Menapians winter league. Emma McCarthy continued her winning ways taking first place in the 500m under-11; Chloe Reck had a steady race to finish in seventh place in the 500m under-12 race; Hugh Boggan impressed in the 1000m under-15 race to take third place; Billy Reck and Jack Forde both competed in the 1000m under-16 race and they finished in third and second places respectively. A special mention to the O’Shaughnessy athletes who are following in Dad Bryan’s footsteps when they competed for the first time for St Killian’s.
ATHLETIC CLUB AGM
The annual general meeting of St Killian’s Athletic Club will take place in Crossabeg school on Wednesday, December 5, senior members and parents are most welcome.
CHRISTMAS FAIR
The annual Christmas baking and coffee morning fundraiser, organised by local lady, Annis Kehoe, will be held in Kyle Forge on Saturday, December 8, Annis will have plenty of cakes, puddings, tarts, mince pies, jams, bread, and vegetables on sale. If you wish to pre-order, contact her at 087 2426146. There will also be a raffle with great prizes on offer.
This year Annis has chosen the local Crossabeg-Ballymurn community centre at Garrywilliam to benefit from the fundraiser. With a lot of focus and support on fundraising for the centre lately, we hope that the parish will continue that trend and get behind Annis and help make the occasion a profitable and enjoyable event. Keep that date in your diaries.
NEW APPOINTMENT
Congratulations to Ger Shortle, Kyle, Crossabeg, who has been appointed as a Teagasc Advisor with responsibility for counties Wexford, Carlow and Wicklow. We wish him every success.
CONDOLENCES
We extend our condolences to Pat O’Rourke and family, Kitestown, Crossabeg, on the death of his Mother, Mary O’Rourke (née Coffey) Glountane, Brosna, Co. Kerry, whose funeral took place following Requiem Mass to Brosna cemetery on Friday, November 16, Our condolences also to Pat Hore and family, Killowen, and Declan Hore and family, Newcastle, on the death of their Mother, Bridget (Bid) Hore (née Monaghan) Whiterock Hill, Wexford (and formerly of John Street, Wexford) who died on Wednesday of last week. Her funeral Mass took place in Rowe Street church on Friday at midday with burial afterwards to Crosstown cemetery. May they rest in peace.
FAMILY IN MOURNING
Family, neighbours and friends were shocked to learn on Thursday morning of last week of the death of young Jack Whelan-Kinsella of Whitefort, Crossabeg. The promising young rugby player, who was a second year CBS student died last Wednesday night. No words can fully express or convey to his family the heartfelt outpouring of sympathy that is being sent the way of his heartbroken family. We can only hope that time may ease their suffering.
Beloved son of Michelle (Whelan) and Sean (Kinsella) and brother of Kaitlyn, Max and Emily, and grandson of Seamus and Joan (Whelan) and Paddy and Cecily Kinsella, he is also missed by his loving family, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, school mates, rugby colleagues and friends.
His remains reposed at his residence on Friday afternoon and again on Saturday, with removal to St. Davids church, Oylegate, for 10.30 a.m Mass on Sunday morning. Burial took place afterwards to the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.
SILVER CIRCLE
The first draw of the community centre Development Silver Circle fundraiser took place recently in Foley’s of Crossabeg. The five lucky winners of €200 each were Patrick O’Connor, Castlesow; Mark Campbell, Kilmallock; Natasha Costelloe, Kyle Upper; Mary and Jackie Kearney, Raheny and Fintan Kehoe, Enniscorthy. Congratulations to all.
The December draw will take place in the Anvil, Ballymurn on Friday, December 21, Thanks again to everyone for the tremendous support received across the community.
CHRISTMAS PARTY
The annual Christmas party for the senior citizens of the parish will take place at Ferrycarrig hotel on Sunday, December 9, dinner will be served at 5.30 p.m. Members of the organising committee are busy preparing for the event and to help offset the costs, tickets are now on sale throughout the parish. Please help out and give as generously as you can when they call to your door.
STORYTELLING
Your next session of storytelling, recitations, music and song takes place at Kyle Forge on Sunday, December 2, Proceedings get under way at 8 p.m. Refreshments are also served and there will be a raffle too.
