Drink driver turned away from checkpoint

-

A MOTORIST who turned away from a garda checkpoint turned out to be over the legal limit for alcohol, the District Court learned.

Supermarket worker Declan Downes (28) from 12 Brendan Corish Gardens, Wexford came to the attention of Garda Linda Conway at Clonard Avenue in the early hours of June 5, 2017.

Solicitor Colette Culleton described her client’s behaviour as a one-off, stupid mistake.

She said that the inevitable loss of licence for two years would make work very difficult for Downes. The disqualification came with a fine of €200.
