No conviction as unauthorised pontoon on Slaney estuary removed

-

A PONTOON installed on the Slaney estuary at Ferrycarrig, Wexford, was an ‘unauthorised development’, the District Court was told.

Prosecution of Declan Power, Park, Ferrycarrig was taken by Wexford County Council where the accused was defended by solicitor Sean Lowney.

Mr Lowney made sure that Judge Gerard Haughton was made aware of the location in question.

He referred to where ‘elephants and other wild animals’ may be found by the river.

The court was assured that the pontoon had been removed and the site restored by Power, who works collecting crashed cars from the roadside.

Mr Lowney also confirmed that the local authority’s expenses had been paid in full.

Judge Haughton indicated that he would not record a conviction once the offender makes a €500 contribution to the ISPCA.
