Copper thieves cause €10,000 damage

THE THEFT of €300 worth of copper cable has resulted in damage of up to €10,000 on Belvedere Road.

Gardai are investigating the incident which occurred sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning.

A manhole cover was lifted up on the road and approxmiately three to four feet of copper cable was removed from underneath.

Garda Inspector Denis Whelan explained that while the actual cable is valued at about €200 to €300, the damage caused stands at about €10,000 because the entire cable will have to be replaced.
