Celebration time at Hospital Ball
OVER 150 people enjoyed this year’s Hospital Ball which had an added element of celebration given that the MRI Now fundraising target had already been reached.
The Hospital Ball was set up on a three-year basis, in conjunction with the Friends of Wexford General Hospital, Wexford General Hospital and the Hospital Ball committee, made up of Brian McGrath, Gina Monaghan, Roisin Ffrench, and Peter Murphy.
Mr McGrath explained that over the past three years, 800 people had attended and enjoyed the Hospital Ball and, in
doing so, had contributed greatly to the MRI Now campaign. He explained that the hospital staff had also hield a fashion show and a Split the Pot event in-house and had raised further funds through that. In total, hospital staff had contributed over €40,000 to the MRI Now campaign.
Mr McGrath added that the Hospital Ball in 2016 had been the first big event to kick-start the fundraising campaign and they were the last event in what had been a remarkable journey.
‘We had pre-sold quite a lot of tickets so we knew what we’d be handing over to the Friends of Wexford General Hospital and they told us that it would push them up to the target.'
Speakers on the night included hospital general manager Lily Byrnes, chairman of the Friends of Wexford General Hospital Ciaran Sheridan, and consultant radiologist Dr Tadhg Gleeson, all of whom expressed their thanks to everyone who had supported the event over the years.
Mr McGrath paid tribute to all of their sponsors including their corporate sponsors Wexford County Council, who were represented by the council cathaoirleach, the Mayor, and the chairpersons of the three municipal district councils.
He also thanked Clayton White’s Hotel for their hospitality and all of the local businesses who’d supported the event through advertising and providing spot prizes.
