ST. KILLIAN’S A.C.
Niall Sheil had a really strong run in Swansea where he was second finisher with his Irish team in the home nations international cross-country championships.
The English team were very strong and took gold with the home team, Wales, taking second. Unfortunately, the Irish team was pipped by Scotland and had to settle for fourth place overall.
Brian O’Shaughnessy travelled to Kilkenny to take on the infamous Stook 10 Mile. Anyone who has competed before will remember this one has hills that seem to go on forever.
It is always a popular and competitive race, and Brian showed his mettle and dug deep to give a great performance to finish in seventh place in a time of 61 minutes 50 seconds for the gruelling ten-mile course.
The ever-popular Waterford half-marathon took place on Saturday and St. Killian’s had a number of athletes taking part, while on Sunday our friends in S.B.R. hosted the Intermediate county cross-country championships. Full results will be printed next week.
KILMORE A.C.
Congratulations to Fiona Kehoe, Sinéad O’Brien and Carol Devereux who took on the challenging half-marathon in Waterford hosted by Waterford A.C. on Saturday morning. The 13.1 km./21-mile race always takes place on the first weekend of December and attracts over 2,500 runners.
Fiona was our first finisher, in a time of 1:22:02, ensuring that she was third woman home in a competitive race won by 2016 Rio Olympian and national marathon champion Lizzie Lee of Leevale (Cork).
Sinéad O’Brien (over-45) was next home in 1:49:53, a great performance from her. Carol Devereux (Over-35), our regular marathon runner, produced another excellent performance in a time of 1:56:19.
Well done to all on another great Waterford half for Kilmore A.C.!
