Even a simple calculator cost most than twice as much as a basic camera back in 1981, according to an advert placed by Carty’s Photo Studio of Market Street, Enniscorthy, in the run up to Christmas that year.
The advert told how calculators were available ‘from £13.75’ - while you could buy an entry-level camera at prices beginning at just £6.50.
Of course, today you’ve just got both calculator and camera on your phone...
