Hard-working Jimmy loved life
THERE WAS widespread sadness following the sad passing of 74-year-old Jimmy Meyler, who died peacefully at his home in Blackhall on September 3.
The huge crowds who attended his wake and funeral spoke volumes of the esteem in which the wider community held him; A true son of the Blackhall soil had closed his eyes. Jimmy was part of Glynn community and it, in turn, was a big part of his life.
His contribution to his community was enormous, and he worked tirelessly for numerous organisations including the local ploughing committee, the IFA, the Fianna Fáil party and especially his beloved Glynn Barntown GAA Club.
Jimmy began, and ended, his life as a farmer in Blackhall. He had an extensive understanding of all things agricultural and an exceptional skill with machinery. Jimmy embraced the tough and demanding elements of farming life with ease and there was no job too big or too small.
As a neighbour, he had no equal. When the demands of farming life required the helping hand of a good neighbour, Jimmy would be the first to help and without hesitation.
His neighbours would say that he was an outstanding friend and that they will miss his cheery personality, his sense of humour and how he would always find time to stop for a chat.
Jimmy will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him, especially those closest to him. He would want them not to grieve but to remember the fun, the love, the sense of humour with which he illuminated their every day. The warmth of his presence, the remembrance of his infectious laugh, and the advice to ‘get on with it’, will lighten their weary load.
As he did in life, Jimmy will continue to help his beloved family along their way.
Jimmy is survived by his dear wife Irene, his daughters Jaime and Leanne, his son David, his grandchildren Dylan and Aime whom he doted upon, his brother Paddy, his sisters Ann, Joan, Gertie, Carmel and Nuala, his nieces and nephews, his brothersin-law, extended family, relatives and many friends.
He was laid to rest in Whitechurch Cemetery on September 6.
Ar dhéis Dé go raibh a h-ainm dhílis. May he Rest in Peace.
