Division 2 high-flyers sink saints in real thriller

A Dan Murphy goal late in extra-time fired Glynn Barntown into the second round of the Creane and Creane Wexford Cup at the expense of St. Cormac’s after an exciting tie on Sunday.

The Division 2 leaders ousted their Division 1 opponents 4-3 after extra-time, with Robert Dempsey (two) and Ríoghan Crosbie also getting on the scoresheet for the winners, and Mick Sweeney, Matthew Dunne and Brian O’Loughlin replying.

Wexford Celtic also came out on the right side of a seven-goal thriller after extra-time, with Philly Cullen netting a double for the Sinnottsto­wn Lane outfit and Richie Browne and Mikey Hanrahan adding a goal apiece against Cushinstow­n, with Jimmy Whelan and Nicky Sinnott (two) scoring for the visitors.

Incredibly, Rosbercon were the third side to win 4-3 after extra-time, with Paudie Murphy, Cillian Bennett, Neil Hickey and Barry Ryan getting their goals in their victory over Ferns United ‘B’.

Gary Breslin, Kyle McHale and Dickie Redmond scored for Ferns.

Division 3 outfit Enniscorth­y Town shocked Division 1 side New Ross Celtic, winning 3-2 after extra-time with goals from Aaron Kenny, Paul Devereux and Graham ‘Doc’ Dunne. Rory O’Connor hit the back of the net twice for Celtic.

Curracloe United travelled to face Enniscorth­y United and came away with a 3-0 win courtesy of goals from Conor Hearne, Tomás Murphy and Stephen McGuire.

Crossabeg proved much too good for Rosslare Strand and ran out 6-1 winners with doubles from James Carley and Conor Maddock and a goal apiece from David Berney and Ciarán Marlow.

Dillon Parle grabbed a consolatio­n goal for Strand.

Shamrock Rovers ‘B’ also chalked up a comprehens­ive victory as they won 5-0 in Rathnure, with Robert Moorehouse (two), Elliot Jordan, Shane Larkin and Jack Carroll scoring.

A Gary Sinnott goal was enough for New Ross Town ‘A’ to edge out Courtown Hibs ‘B’, while Anthony Feeney was the match-winner for Town’s ‘B’ team, bagging a hattrick in their 3-1 win over Cushinstow­n ‘B’.

Division 3A side Ballymurn Celtic shocked Division 1 strugglers St. Leonards, with Shane Campbell baggging both their goals in a 2-1 win and Aran Murphy replying.

P.J. Banville had his shooting boots on as he scored five times in Campile United’s 11-2 win over Bunclody ‘C’.

David Larkin and Eric Banville chipped in with doubles, while Jamie Myler and Shane Banville also got in on the act,e with Martin Murphy and Dion Dunne replying for Bunclody.

Alan Collins, Maxi Denisiuk, Edmunds Prudskojs, Paddy Fleming and Bobby O’Sullivan got the goals for Gorey Celtic ‘B’ in their 5-1 win over Wexford Celtic ‘B’, with Caleb O’Brien replying.

All Blacks ‘A’ saw off Carne FC 3-0 with goals from Adam Devereux (two) and John Codd, while their ‘B’ team were also victorious, with Michael O’Brien and Mark Sinnott hitting the back of the net as they edged out Rosslare Rangers ‘B’ 2-1, with Danny Ennis replying.

Daire Bolger netted the winner for Raheen in their 3-2 win over Wexford Bohs ‘B’, with Enda Wickham scoring twice for the winners and Eddie Pitman and Michael O’Rourke on the scoresheet for Bohs.
