From the adverts: Jobs at Penney’s

January 1985

-

The Penney’s store on South Main Street in Wexford has been a mainstay of the town for more than three decades now, and it was back in 1985 that the company advertised for its first crop of recruits there.

There were positions on offer for full-time and part-time sales assistants (with the advert specifying aged between 17 and 24), and also for cashiers. The advert stated that successful applicants would enjoy ‘generous rates of pay and excellent conditions of employment, including a modern canteen and a staff rest room’.
