Anne calls time on 19 years in civil service

- By ANNA HAYES

THE STAFF at the Wexford town social welfare office bid a fond farewell to a popular colleague recently.

Anne Ryan, originally from Tinahely but now living in Kildavin, retired from the civil service after 19 years. She has worked in the Department of Social Protection since 2002 and held roles in all sections of that office. She had previously worked in the Department of Agriculture.

However, her colleagues expect that she will as busy and active in retirement as in her working life, with plenty of interests to focus on outside of the office. She is a particular fan of jigsaws and puzzles, the more complex the better, crafts and baking, horse-racing, and travel.

Her colleagues explained that family was very important to Anne and she would enjoy going to horse-racing meets and seeing the world with her husband Jim, as well as having plenty of time to spend with her son Anthony, daughter Caroline, and her beloved grandchildren.

The staff at the office enjoyed tea and cake in the canteen to mark Anne’s retirement.

She was wished well by Area Manager Patricia Delaney. Office colleagues John Bradley and Majella Colfer paid tribute to their friend and reminisced over the years she had spent there. Catherine Sutherland recited a poem in tribute to Mrs Ryan before Brendan O’Dwyer presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
