ON April 7 I will take part in the Hope and Dream 10 and I look forward to standing on the prom in Enniscorth­y with the thousands of other participan­ts waiting for the race to start.

I have taken part in all the Hope and Dream races and I have thoroughly enjoyed each one. There is always a great atmosphere on the prom on the morning of the race. Of course, there is a more serious side to the Hope and Dream 10. This year the money raised from sponsorshi­p will go to the Hope Cancer Support Centre in Enniscorth­y and to Wexford Hospice Homecare. My dad, Noel Matthews, was one of the people who set up the Hope Centre following his own cancer diagnosis. It gives me a great sense of pride to take part in this excellent fundraiser knowing that the money raised will allow the wonderful Hope Centre to continue to operate. The services provided by the Hope Centre are invaluable to the people who use them.
