IT Carlow launches slick new campaign to attract students

-

IT Carlow has lanched a new campaign urging CAO applicants to ‘Start Your Story Here’.

The slick campaign sees IT Carlow ambassadors from all walks of life outline the benefits of studying at IT Carlow.

World Silver Medallist Molly Scott said: ‘This is the first time where I’ve felt part of a team. Everything is here for me. The lecturers know all of us personally and I know everyone, from the caretakers to the President and everyone is so lovely.

‘My goal is to make an Olympic team and to represent my country and I want to do that from IT Carlow and I want to say ‘Yes! My college, and my Mam, and my Dad got me on an Olympic team. I couldn’t be happier that I’m here.’

Molly, who is a second year law student at Institute of Technology Carlow, is one of nine students who are this month happily telling their own personal stories about being a student at Ireland’s third-largest institute of technology as part of a stylish new peer-to-peer CAO campaign.

Emphasising that ‘everyone’s story starts somewhere’, they call on aspiring college-goers to ‘Start Your Story at IT Carlow’.

The other IT Carlow ambassadors, whose stories are being told across social media, radio and outdoor advertising this month before the CAO deadline of February 1 are: aerospace engineering student Dillon O’Reilly; Jack Nolan, who is studying Sports Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy; Paul McNamara, currently undertaking a BSc in Brewing and Distilling; marketing student Colin Dunford; Shannon Devereux, who is studying Sustainable Farm Management and Agribusiness; Bachelor of Business (Hons) with Marketing student, Melanie Mynhardt and Software Development student Ailish Kavanagh.

Telling her story, agribusiness student Shannon Devereux said: ‘The lecturers at IT Carlow put 100 per cent into making sure everything runs well and you get great practical experience.’

Melanie Mynhardt, who is studying business with marketing, added, ‘You’re not just a number at IT Carlow. If you need extra help, the lecturers are there for you. The will put on extra classes for you and meet you outside class.’

Colin Dunford, a Waterford senior hurler and current marketing student talks about how studying at Institute of Technology Carlow has facilitated his sports ambitions.

‘There’s a real sense of family here. IT Carlow is like family to me.’

Software Development student Ailish Kavanagh added ‘I’ve absolutely picked the right place. It’s given me a lot of amazing opportunities I’d never have imagined or considered; just the fact that you’re so included, instead of being on the side-lines. I wouldn’t have come as far somewhere else.’

It is appropriate that Institute of Technology Carlow would let its students do the talking.

The Institute prides itself on its ‘student first’ ethos which puts its learners at the heart of everything it does. Over the last four years, the Institute has carried out a €120million capital investment programme that has delivered first-class lecture facilities, technology support, sports amenities, student services, a dedicated research & development facility, an aerospace centre and a teaching and learning centre.

Together, they ensure an unparalleled learning experience for Institute of Technology Carlow’s 8,300 students who are pursuing 80 taught programmes to Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) in science, engineering, computing, business and humanities through its centres in Carlow, Wexford and Wicklow. Courses are planned in collaboration with the needs of industry and bring learners into direct contact with professional practice through work placements, industry-based projects and clinical placements.

This translates into programmes of study and internationally recognised qualifications across a range of discipline areas that are very relevant to real career opportunities in the employment marketplace.

Amongst the niche and ‘industry ready’ programmes offered by Institute of Technology Carlow are the recently introduced Bachelor of Science (Hons.) programmes in Computing in Interactive Digital Arts and Design, Creative Computing and Digital Innovation; Digital Marketing with Analytics and Pharmaceutics and Drug Formulation, together with a new honours degree course at the Wexford campus in Tourism and Event Management. They sit alongside niche programmes, such as the B.Sc. (Hons) in Cybercrime & IT Security, the B. Sc. (Hons) in Brewing & Distilling and the Bachelor of Engineering in Aircraft Systems.
