All Ireland movement to hold first public meeting in Wexford

-

THE recently formed All Ireland Movement will be holding a public meeting in the

Ferrycarrig Hotel, Wexford, on

Tuesday, January 15, at 7.30 p.m.

The meeting will be one of a series taking place in all

32 counties and according to

Peader Tóibín TD, who will speak in Wexford, there has been a strong show of support from people looking for an alternative political viewpoint.

‘We are blown away by the level of support,’ he said.

Commenting there was an

‘avalanche’ of people getting in contact with the movement he said many of them are people from Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin backgrounds who are frustrated at their own parties.

Deputy Tóibín resigned from Sinn Féin himself on November 15, 2018, and he has been very vocal about the pro-life aspect of the new political movement.

He said the atmosphere at the meetings that have taken place so far around the country has been like ‘a pressure cooker valve being released’.

‘People are saying that they have no one to vote for, that all the parties are uniform on so many issues,’ he said.

He suggested ordinary people are being left behind: ‘People in housing crisis, who have health care issues and are struggling to makes ends meet want and need their issues to be crowbarred back up the political priority agenda.’

However, he said the priorities of the main parties appear to be counter to that: ‘The political establishment seem to be prioritising everything else but economic justice.’

Speaking about his new movement he said it’s ‘an all Ireland party’ seeking the unity of the Irish people north and south.

He also underlined the pro-life aspect of the movement: ‘We believe that all human life should be protected.’

The party that has so far recruited nine councillors to its ranks and over 1,400 members and 20 cumainn across the country..
