Carmel’s love of London life was infectious

-

THE death occurred recently of Carmel Ryan, a New Ross woman who was life long president of the London Wexford Association.

Carmel Ryan (née Barron) died in London on December 7 aged 75 following an illness.

Formerly of Rosemount, New Ross, Carmel was the only child of Jack and Bridie Barron.

She was predeceased by her husband Jim who was originally from Donard, Clonleigh, and her son John who died in April 2015.

A devoted wife and mother, Carmel nursed all her life and was a district nurse in the London area for a long number of years.

Carmel worked in the nursing profession for most of her life dedicating her time and skills to a vast array of people down through the years. She was a very highly respected lady and very professional in all that she did.

She returned to Wexford every year visiting her many cousins and friends in The Rower and Enniscorthy.

A bubbly woman, Carmel loved holidaying, especially going on cruises.

She devoted over fifty years of her life to The London Wexford Association, taking an active role in the organisation of events especially at the London Irish Festival at Roundwood Park where she dearly enjoyed the craic, while meeting friends from her native County Wexford.

The association released a statement following her passing saying: ‘It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the death of our life long President Carmel Ryan (née Barron) late of Kingsbury, North West London and formerly of New Ross. Predeceased by her husband Jim, a long established member and ex-chairman of the Fr Murphy’s Hurling Club and also her son John. London Wexford Association would like to extend our sincere condolences to all the family and friends.’

A huge crowd attended Carmel’s funeral Mass at St Sebastian & St Pancras R.C. Church, Hay Lane, Kingsbury, where one of her favourite songs, the Rose of Mooncoin was played.

Carmel will be sadly missed by her son Kenny; daughters Finola and Margaret; daughters-in-law Jackie and Lorraine, sons-in-law Killian and Colin; grandchildren; great-grandson and wide circle of friends.

May her gentle soul Rest In Peace.
