New 30 km/h speed limits in many housing estates

-

THE ENFORCING of new 30 km/h speed limits in housing estates around the county has been welcomed by Cllr George Lawlor.

In the coming weeks, 254 housing estates across the county will see new signs erected with more than a thousand estates benefiting from the new limits within the next 12 months.

Cllr Lawlor said that, as far back as 2012, he had proposed a speed limit of 30 km/h outside Wexford schools and said he would still like to see that happen.

The first housing estates in Wexford town and district to have the new signage will be: Antelope Road, Ashfield Drive, Avondale Drive, Ard Carman, Belvedere Grove, College Green, Corish Park, Dolphin Road, Edenvale Avenue, Ferndale Park, Gulbar Road, Hantoon Road, Harbour View, Liam Mellows Park, Lús Mór, St. Brendan’s Road, Saltee Avenue, Shanna Court, Westgate Park, Whiterock View, Wolfe tone Villas, Clonard Village, Cluain Dara, Highfields, Heathfield, Richmond Estate, Pinewood Estate, Parkside, Farnogue Park, Ard na Cuan, and The Grove.

Cllr Lawlor added: ‘I wish to acknowledge the role played by the parents of six-year-old Jake Brennan and their campaign to have ‘Jake’s Law’ implemented across the country. Jake died following an accident outside his home in Kilkenny in 2014. Although campaigners for ‘Jake’s Law’ had called for a 20km limit, this new 30km limit is a very welcome move.’
