Waterford track a very happy hunting ground for Wexford

-

IT’S A relatively quiet time at the moment on the greyhound racing scene as the new season starts to build.

Nonetheless, there has been good success around the tracks again in the last week, with four winners on Saturday night at Waterford for Co. Wexford owners and trainers.

The A1 eleventh race featured a red-hot favourite for Co. Cork trainer John A. Linehan who was looking to record a treble.

However, the Garry Murphy (Wexford town)-owned and Cora Doyle/Eamonn Moore-trained Glenbrook View had a different plan as he powered to the rail from his trap three draw.

Once he gets to the rail he is not for passing and, although he was pressed all the way by trap six runner Blue Cheese, he took the paint off the rails around the last bend and battled on strongly to record a 14th career win in a good 28.94 at the very generous odds of 5/1.

Barntown owner George Roche enjoyed a nice double success when his Borna Coast came good in race four (an A5), running out a clearcut winner and recording his first success from eight starts in a good 29.11.

The double was completed when in race ten (an A4), after breaking out well from trap one, Express Zodiac was always in complete control and ran out an easy winner by six and a half lengths in 29.19.

The Richard Walsh Snr.-owned Sand Storm may have taken 14 attempts to get off the mark, but he did it in style. Trap six played to his strengths as he kept a wide course to sweep to the lead by the third bend before going on to score an easy win in the end in 29.11.

There was more success on Thursday morning as the Derek Wilde (Gorey)-owned Carrigoe Zeb scored a nice win in race two, while the Nick Turner-trained and Mark Jeffers-owned Callums Girl finally got off the mark when she battled on well to get up in the closing stages to grab the money in race five.

Race eight saw another open his account when the Brendan Murphy (Ferns)-trained and Conor Carton-owned Pitstop Jet came through the field strongly to win going away in this A4 race, and more improvement is expected.

Race ten saw a very close finish as only a short head separated Archaton Lailah and Airmount Speed, with the Janice Jordan (Wexford town)-owned Archaton getting the verdict in a good 29.16.

Kilkenny was also good to Co. Wexford runners on Wednesday, and Enniscorthy handler Donal Kehoe recorded a nice double, starting when Tomahurra Daisy was an easy five-length winner of race four in a time of 29.91.

In race eight, Tomahurra Leah was an even easier winner, coming home six and a half lengths to the good in an impressive 29.21.

Race five went to the Joseph J. Ryan (Enniscorthy)-owned Mixed Gold Bars, and again he was also a clearcut winner by four and a half lengths in 29.56.
