NEW ROSS

A brilliant turn-out of over 140 competed in last weekend’s winter league round three competition, sponsored by Hartley’s Motorcraft, with very good scoring recorded.

Results: 1, Paul Brennan (14), 35 points (last nine); 2, Mossy Ryan (17), 35 points; 3, John Hackett (12), 34 points; gross, Ger Ronan, 28 points; Cat. 1, John Flynn (8), 31 points; Cat. 2, Barry Mullane (14), 33 points; Cat. 3, Danny Hayes (18), 32 points (last nine).

The 14-hole format is proving popular and the selection of holes in play each weekend keeps the challenge fresh for everyone.

Next weekend sees the fourth round of the winter league, with playing times on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Split The Pot draw has been deferred to next Sunday. Entries may be made as always via the bar/restaurant.

The course is holding up very well as we move towards spring. Every golfer can assist in maintaining this by continuing to repair any pitch marks they see, filling divots and raking bunkers.

NEW ROSS SENIORS

In what was a real spring day with little or no breeze, the Seniors were out in force on Thursday with the biggest number of players for a long time taking part.

In fact, 14 teams took to the fairways where, as always, competition was mustard keen. Big scores were expected and that was what we got, with eleven teams clocking up 90 points or more.

However, the vast majority of these were not good enough to figure in the prizes where once again we had convincing winners.

Clocking up an incredible 56 points on the outward nine holes, this was the foundation of ultimate victory for Michael Kavanagh (17), Billy Redmond (19), Martin Forristal (21) and Seán O hUginn (23) who added 47 points on the back nine to finish clear winners with a 103 points total.

Second with 99 points came Ray Shannon (14), Steve Travis (17), Tony Sexton (22) and Jamesie Murphy (24). The third place was filled by Tony Redmond (18), Jamesie Wallace (21), Mick Long (23) and Frank Boyle (23) with 97 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Michael Kavanagh on the ninth hole and Willie Naddy on the eleventh.

Many thanks to James Roche and Paul Morris in the Pro Shop for generously sponsoring the prizes for the outing - it was much appreciated by all.

Our away outing dates have been finalised and are as follows: Tuesday, March 25, Gowran Park; Monday/ Tuesday, April 8 and 9, Dundrum; Tuesday, April 23, Bunclody; Monday, May 13, Coollattin; Monday, June 17, Waterford Castle; Tuesday, July 16, Faithlegg; Monday, August 19, Dungarvan; Tuesday/Wednesday, September 5 and 6, Ballykisteen.
