ST FINTAN’S CLUB MEETING

The St Fintan’s GAA Club chairman Robbie O’Callaghan together with his fellow officers and development committee held a very important and constructive club meeting during the past week with the club house redevelopment high on the agenda. This work when finished will see the clubhouse meet the standard and suitable for use by both visiting clubs and the ladies and gents of the home club.

This work is scheduled to commence once a number of loose ends are tied up. As with all major works of this nature finance plays a major role and we once again will be calling on your support and are very thankful for your most generous support to date.

Lighting of the various areas to the grounds was also discussed and a very attractive non-playing membership scheme involving many of the local businesses was also discussed details of which will be furnished in the coming weeks. The non-playing membership is just €30 and is a very good way to support the club.

With the playing season just around the corner we look forward to your support at the many games and we wish you all a very happy new year.

DONAL, PAT HONOURED

St Fintan’s man Donal Shanley was a member of the Wexfords senior football team that was beaten by a strong Meath outfit in its effort to reach the last four of the Bord Na Mona O’Byrne football tournament. Though beaten this group of players showed promise and Donal contributed a goal of the 1-13 total.

While Donal is in his prime a man who contributed in no small way in both hurling ad football during the 60s, 70s and 80s for both club and county was honoured for his contribution last weekend at a function in the Ferrycarrig Hotel.

Pat Rossitter received his commemorative scroll from the Coiste Na Sheana Ghael committee and was a worthy recipient from the St Fintan’s club for his contribution and organisation both on and off the pitch. Congratulations, Pat.

BEREAVEMENT

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Stephen Lawlor of the Hideout bar Lyngstown, who sadly died during the recent past. Stephen was a great supporter of all sports in the area and the local Killinick Harriers hunt group use his premises as a set off point for their days hunting. May he rest in peace.

Well done to both men’s teams who were in cup action in the recent past. The A team beat local neighbours Carne 3-0 with goals from John Codd and two from Adam Devereux.

The B team then took on Rosslare Rangers second and came out 2-1 winners in a close game. Michael O’Brien and Mark Sinnott with the goals. Great results lads and roll on the next round.

Well done to the under-16 girls on securing their Premier Division placing for the season ahead. The girls needed a win and came out on top 3-0 against a spirited and young Bunclody team in their final game of the ‘short season’. The result ensures they remain in the top flight for the coming season. The result was not a foregone conclusion but two goals from Niamh Rees and a goal from Zoe Butler ensured a comfortable win on the day. Well done to the girls. Thanks to Paddy and Margaret for all their hard work and bring on the 2019 season ahead.
