UNITED STRIDERS A.C.

Erinn Shannon kicked off a busy day for the Striders at Dundalk with a fantastic fifth place finish at the national cross-country ‘B’ championships.

Having missed most of the cross-country season with a foot injury, Erinn bounced back better than ever to record her best finish to date at this event.

What a legend - coaching our new-joiner Juveniles on Saturday morning, then winning a national medal on Sunday morning.

Also at Dundalk, the national Juvenile cross-country relays provided plenty more thrills and spills for the Striders.

Following on from Erinn’s great performance, our boys were excellent and for the second year in a row they won the Under-14 national title.

In the Under-12 age group, Ronan Shannon, Olan Delaney, Sam Myers and Eoin Hannan ran a scorching relay and were unlucky to finish just outside the medals.

Next up, we had two teams of Under-14 boys attempting to repeat last year’s win. Against the biggest and best clubs in Ireland, the team of Cosmo Hewlett, Myles Hewlett, Eoin Shannon and Aidan Kehoe all excelled in winning another national team gold for the Striders in a very tight finish.

A mention too for Tommaso Hickey, Finn Kelly, Seán Lennon and Ben Myers who all gave it their best, and very nearly won a second medal, in the same race.

These are special times for the Striders, with all this under-age talent... long may it last.

The day finished on a high, with the slightly older Striders also performing really well and finishing in the medals.

The Wexford Masters team, including Ted Flannelly, Gavin Kelly, Matt Flannelly and Pat O’Callaghan, won bronze in their event. Well done all who competed so well in Dundalk.
