Creative students fashion a place in Junk Kouture final
RAMSGRANGE Community School has once again shown its fashion credentials by qualifying for the finals of the national Junk Kouture competition.
Over the past few months students have created some amazing works of Junk Kouture ‘clothing’. Working with art teacher Avril Buttle, the three Transition Year groups of students began designing their creations in September, coming up with concept ideas. They worked in groups to finalise their works of art which are part of their Transition Year programme.
Competing in the national competition, the students: Team 1: Military Madness, modelled by Josh White Keating, helped by Caitlin Barron and Jimmy Molloy. Team 2: Dream Catcher, modelled by Annamai Drohan, helped by Emma Knight, Molly Dillon and Siobhan Sinnott; Team 3: Victorian Blues: Mickey O’Regan, Latisha Ngouoto (model), Palomo Larena and Keylian Amara – had to come up with a design using sound or recyclable objects.
The ingenuity and innovation displayed by students at the school is always of an extremely high standard and this year there was an eclectic range of items entered.
There were 1,533 Kouture outfits entered last year nationally and from that number just 86 made it through to the final showing the level the creative Ramsgrange students are working at.
The students - which include teams of males and females uploaded their final creations to the Junk Kouture website for judges to pour over. The Wexford fashion forward students will be modelling and showcasing their creations later this year.
