100 mph

The speed at which Wexford’s Paula Canty (pictured) was zipping along on a day trip with a difference in aid of ISPCC Childline.

Gorey woman Paula, who works with Vodafone Ireland, took on the fastest zip line in the world, Zip World, Wales, for Childline last year and is now urging others to savour the exhilarating experience when Zipline for Childline 2019 takes place on Saturday, May 11.

Those who take part in this day trip with a difference will travel by ferry to Holyhead on the day, before being taken by coach to begin their adventures. After completing Little Zipper, a line to build confidence, participants will ascend Penrhyn Quarry towards the Big Top of Velocity. This is where the pulsating fun starts!

Whetting appetites further still, participants on the day will also have the opportunity to experience the thrilling Zip World Fforest Coaster set in the idyllic Conwy Valley.

Of her experience of zooming along suspended from a zip line at over 100 mph on Zip World Velocity, Paula said: ‘It was an amazing feeling. I surprised myself and wanted another go! It was such a great day from start to finish. The excitement and nerves built up quickly, but the whole day was really well organised. The experience was absolutely exhilarating. I even managed to keep my eyes open as I zipped across the quarry and the views were spectacular.’

By taking part, ‘zippers’ will help raise vital funds to keep Childline listening to children 24 hours a day. Childline provides free, confidential and non-judgmental support to children and young people. Those taking part will be asked to fundraise a minimum of €700 for Childline (including a €150 nonrefundable deposit) in order to secure their place on the trip.
