A TEAM of pupils from Murrintown NS finished in first place in the Enniscorthy Credit Union schools quiz held in the Riverside Park Hotel.

Murrintown National School participates in the Enniscorthy quiz as the local credit union has operated under the umbrella of Enniscorthy Credit Union since a merger in 2016.

Pupils from Crossabeg NS were runners-up in the U-11 category, with a team from St. Joseph’s in Bree in third place.

A team from Oylegate NS finished in second place in the U-13 category, behind a quartet from St. Senan’s Primary School in Enniscorthy.

The local round of the quiz – which this year celebrates its 28th anniversary attracted entries from 29 schools who put forward 56 different teams.

Chairman of Enniscorthy Credit Union, Nick Cosgrave, said that the quiz is more than just a promotional event.

‘One of our operating principles refers to social responsibility and contributing to the education of our members and potential members,’ said Mr Cosgrave.

‘With this event we are encouraging local children to work together and see what they are capable of achieving as part of a team,’ he added.

The quizmaster was Liam Waters who had everyone under starter’s orders at 3 p.m.

There were two sections on the day; one for under-11s and one for under-13s.

The winner and the runner-up in each category will now compete at the Chapter level of the competition in early March.

Chapter winners will then go through to the grand final in the RDS, Dublin, on Sunday, April 7.
