Autumn Viking Fire Fest to light up quays

DETAILS about the Viking Fire Festival taking place in Wexford this September were unveiled at the meeting.

Fáilte Ireland has rowed in behind Wexford County Council offering funding for the festival which takes place on the last weekend of September at the Irish National Heritage Park and in Wexford town.

The festival will see a flotilla of Viking boats from the heritage park travel to Wexford quay, a burning boat procession with torches, lamp lit boats, Viking long ships, music and drumming. The visually striking boats will leave the Irish Heritage Park in Ferrycarrig and make its way downstream to Wexford town.

A Viking boat will be ignited by archers from the quayside where there will be a fire display.
