-

The death took place recently in England of Margaret (Nuala) Chambers (nee Hatchell), who was a native of Wexford.

Nuala of Ascot, Berkshire sadly passed away in Long Lea Nursing Home in Fifield, Maidenhead, Berkshire on May 1 at the age of 86.

Born in Thomas Clarke Place, formerly Dukes Lane in Wexford on December 23, 1930, she was the oldest living member of the Hatchell family.

She worked for a couple of years in Monahan’s Fish and Chip Shop in Barrack Street before emigrating to London in 1951 at the age of 18, like so many others of that era.

Her early years in London were spent in the Shepherd’s Bush and Hammersmith areas where her mother’s sisters, Annie (Monahan), Agnes (Sparrow), Teresa (Creaven) and their husbands looked after and looked out for her.

She married her husband Eric in 1955 and they had two daughters, Sheila and Anne. She had a number of jobs in London, including Walls Bacon and Ice Cream factories. She featured on the front cover of Walls Monthly Magazine, a testament to her good looks. She also worked for a time for British Airways in London Heathrow Airport in the catering department.

Nuala was from a large family of 15 children born to her late parents, Nicky and Kitty Hatchell. She was predeceased by her brothers Nicky, John, James, Simon and David and her sisters Mary Kate, Mary (Cissy) and Kathleen.

She is survived by her husband Eric, daughters Sheila Tarbet, partner Vic and grandson Mark, and Anne Pike, grandson Christopher and granddaughter Claire; her sisters Anna (Buncrana), Agnes (Wexford), Teresa (Middlesex) and Angela (Wexford); her brothers Christy (London) and George (Cork).

Nuala will be sadly missed by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins and their families. A cremation ceremony will take place at East-hamstead Park Crematorium, Bracknell on Wednesday May 27. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Long Lea Nursing Home, Fifield and all those who have sent messages of sympathy. May Nuala rest in peace.
