IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY
IF time spent in lockdown has taught us anything it’s that we should learn to appreciate the things on our doorstep – those trails, laneways and greenerys within walking distance of our homes.
Karen Ryan is lucky enough to live close to Forth Mountain and the forests which cluster around it.
The trails and walks which have been created in the area have proved very popular during the lockdown with families and children.
But something very strange has been happening in the forests, with some new additions to the scenery popping up on an almost daily basis.
‘The views are fantastic and the paths are wide enough for the essential two-metre distancing,’ said Karen. ‘However, since this walk has gained popularity, lots of extras have begun to appear in the woods, from fairy doors, to fairy houses and a fairy housing estate also.
‘These have been joined by pom-poms made from wool and also stones painted with messages.’
Although Karen said she has contributed to the spectacle by adding a little house of her own, it’s not clear where the rest of them have come from.
‘Some of them have been there since before corona but now they’re being added to more often.
‘It’s fantastic to see the new extra bits each day as I venture out for my walk,’ she said.
‘Enjoy the surprise as you venture to the view point at ‘Skeater Rock’ for yourself.’
Whether these new doors and houses are just here for the lockdown remains to be seen, but if you go down to the woods today be prepared, as Karen says, for a bit of a surprise.
