Mick was a fun-loving family man with a mischievous sense of humour

-

THE death occurred recently of Michael (Mick) Reville – a family man whose sense of devilment and fun endeared him to all.

Late of Kilbraney, Gusserane, Mick died at home, aged 83, on October 12.

The son of Patrick and Ellen Reville, Mick grew up in Rochestown. He attended Clongeen NS and continued his education, prior to getting work as a steel erector.

He met Taghmon woman Kathleen Waters at a marquee in her hometown and the couple hit it off and were engaged within two years.

They married and settled in Kilbraney where they provided a loving home to their children Michelle, Patricia, Caitriona, Serena and Alan,

Mick’s work took him all over the country but Kathleen ensured he was home every evening.

He eventually gave up the steel erecting and ran a farm at home, while also doing stone masonry.

A quiet man who had a mischievous sense of humour, Mick, like his wife, loved dancing and music and the two twirled and danced the night away many a night at the Oak Tree Tavern, the Regal Lodge and the Rhu Glenn.

He loved playing 45 in Ballycullane, Gusserane and Campile and made friends everywhere he went.

They enjoyed holidays abroad to Spain and Portugal and were always each other’s company. They also went to Lisdoonvarna every year for music and dancing

Mick was very well known in the community as being a joker and wind up merchant.

He loved watching soccer and TV and always enjoyed catching up with his family.

The arrival of his great-grandson Cody into his life was a special moment last autumn and he was very proud of all of his offspring.

Mick enjoyed great health until last spring. He passed away peacefully at his home in the love and care of his family, having spent a month in hospital. He will be remembered as a happy go lucky character.

Family and friends of Mick gathered at the church of St John the Baptist, Gusserane, for his funeral mass. Stephen Murphy sang one of his favourite songs; a song that Mick himself sang often, Old Shep, at his graveside in Gusserane. Mick is deeply missed by Kathleen; Michelle, Patricia, Caitriona, Serena and Alan; siblings: Kitty, Nellie, John, Bridgie, Andy and the late Aunty, Julia, Jim, Willie, Tom, Paddy, Martin and Molly. He will be sadly missed by his loving family: sons-in-law Gerry, Paddy, Tony and Dean; grandchildren Emma, Martin, Amy, Aaron, Adam, Kyle, Evan and Oisín; great grandchildren Shane and Cody, extended family and friends.

May he rest in peace.
