TRIBUTES were paid to a ‘true Covid hero’ following the passing of popular Wexford based nurse and father of one Solson Saviour after he succumbed to his battle with the virus.

A native of India, Solson had been living in the Bunclody area with his wife Bincy and their 2 year-old son. When he arrived in Ireland, he spent his first three years working in Gowran at the Gowran Abbey Nursing Home. They paid tribute to him in a heart-breaking post.

‘Just over two years ago, we shared the happiness of one of our colleagues, Nurse Solson Saviour, as he announced the news that he was the proud new father of a baby boy, his first born,’ the tribute said.

‘Today, we received the devastating news that Solson tragically lost his personal battle with Covid-19 as he sadly died in Wexford General Hospital.’

‘Solson was always full of life and had a gentle smile and a kind word for all our residents. May his gentle soul rest in peace and may God’s angels hold his hand on the road to paradise. Our thoughts are with his heartbroken wife and young son at this time and also his family in India who have been so tragically touched by the devastating reality of this cruel Covid-19 virus.’

Solson moved from Gowran to Bunclody where he moved his family to take up a role at the Ros Aoibhinn Nursing Home there. Having worked there up until December just gone, working through what was an incredibly difficult period for nursing homes, staff and management at Ros Aoibhinn were also devastated by the news.

‘It’s with great sadness we learned of the sudden and tragic loss of our former colleague Solson Saviour,’ a statement read.

‘Solson was a very kind and gentle nurse. He was always smiling and will be greatly missed by us all here in Ros Aoibhinn. Our thoughts, prayers and hearts go to Solson’s wife Bincy, his young son and his family in India at this devastatingly sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Rest in Peace Solson.’

INMO General Secretary Phil Ni Sheadhgha also offered condolences, saying: ‘It was with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of Solson Saviour. On behalf of our members and everyone in the INMO, I want to extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Bincy, their young son and his family. We also extend our condolences to our members who worked alongside Solson, and our thanks to those who cared for him in Wexford General Hospital.’

The Migrant Nurses Ireland group posted bank details on Facebook whereby ‘good hearts’ could donate money towards Solson’s funeral costs.

They described their fallen colleague as ‘a beautiful spirit’ and ‘a true nurse’.
