WEXFORD MOURNS PASSING OF DR KESHAV SHARMA (39)

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

IT came as a cruel blow for the staff at Wexford General Hospital that in the midst of a pandemic and spiralling numbers of Covid patients, they were forced to bid a fond farewell to one of their own following the sudden passing of Dr Keshav Sharma who had only recently celebrated his 39th birthday.

A native of Trinidad, Dr Sharma had been living at Pierce Court in Wexford town, where he sadly died despite the best efforts of colleagues and friends to revive him on Monday of last week.

The news came as a devastating blow to staff at the hospital, all of whom are already exhausted from the battle against Covid, one which Dr Sharma had played a major part.

‘All the staff and management in Wexford General Hospital were profoundly sad to learn of the sudden passing of Dr Keshav Sharma this week,’ a hospital statement read.

‘Dr Sharma was a selfless hard-working Doctor who always put his patients first. More importantly however, he was a great friend and colleague to us in Wexford.’

‘He had a lovely easy going manner and had a smile for everyone he met. Wexford General Hospital extends its deepest sympathies to Dr Sharma’s family and loved ones at this very sad time.’

Dr Sharma was the son of the former Chief Justice of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the late Mr Justice Satnarine Persad Sharama and his mother Kalawaty. He was the beloved brother of Shiv and brother-in-law to Tamara and uncle to Aran Daniel and Alex Kiran.

He is sadly missed by his many colleagues and patients presently at Wexford General Hospital and formerly of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridge University, St James’ Hospital, Galway University Hospital, Letterkenny University Hospital and St Vincent’s University Hospital.

He is fondly remembered by his 2005 Medical School class mates and house-mates at University College Dublin Dr Mark Murphy, Dr Tom O’Neill, Dr Michael Walsh and in particular Maria McCarthy & Dr Mick Molloy and their family of Roebuck Castle, Dublin with whom he spent so many wonderful years.

May he rest in peace.
