ROSSLARE LADIES

Our golf course and clubhouse remain closed until the end of January, so there’s no competitions to report this week.

However, in the hope of a return to golf before too long, the dates for the major competitions have been provisionally fixed.

Lady President’s (Marianne Brennan) day: Saturday, May 29, 2021;

Captain’s (Des Murphy) prize to the ladies: Tuesday, June 15, 2021;

Lady Captain’s (Joan Bowe) day: Saturday, July

10, 2021;

President’s (Brian Hall-O’Mahoney) prize to the ladies: Tuesday, August 10;

Christmas prizes: Tuesday, September 14, 2021. These dates are, of course, subject to change depending on government restrictions at any given time, so for now, just pencil them into your diaries.

There were no team competitions last year, but this year we hope to enter teams in the following Golf Ireland competitions: Senior, Junior, Intermediate, Minor and Challenge categories.

These are all singles competitions with specific handicap divisions. The matches are on a ‘home-away’ basis, with five ladies on each team and their accompanying five caddies.

If you are interested in becoming involved and competing when the golf season re-starts, please check the noticeboards in the ladies’ locker room.

The team competitions are a terrific way to improve our golf, test our skills against other clubs, and enjoy the team camaraderie of course!

A reminder that the joint club AGM will take place on Friday, January 29, at 7 p.m.

This will be an historic first for the club and we encourage you all to attend online.

Invitations will be sent with a link to join/attend the meeting. Online meetings allow all our members to attend from far and near, so take the opportunity to be part of the AGM. Thank you all!

WEXFORD

The AGM of our joint club was held via Zoom on Friday night. Our President, Larry Byrne, took charge of proceedings.

In the President’s and Captain’s (Jim Keane) addresses to the many members who had logged into this meeting they both thanked the officers, honorary officers, committee and sub-committee members, all club members and both the indoor and the course staff for helping to see our club through this most difficult year.

The following were elected to the management committee for 2021: President, Larry Byrne; Captain, Jim Keane; Vice-Captain, John Pitt; lady Captain, Lily Rowe; lady Vice-Captain, Beppi O’Connor; Honorary Secretary, Martina Dempsey; Honorary Treasurer, Brian Judd.

One thing that we have all learned in these stressful times is how to make use of all that modern technology that has been sent our way over the last number of years.

In the region of one hundred members logged into this meeting. While we did not have the normal cut and thrust during debates on topics, constructive work was done and there were some good suggestions made.

One of the proposals, by Honorary Treasurer Brian Judd, was that the date to qualify for the smart card credit for early subscription payers be extended to January 31 for this year. This was passed.

A special word of thanks must be extended to club member Rachel O’Connor for her technical help in the organisation of this meeting.

Our Junior Captains for 2021 have been appointed and are Conor Dempsey and Amy Geraghty.

Congratulations to both of you and we all wish you every success in the coming year.
