OVER THE WATER C0NDOLENCE­S

The parish of Castlebrid­ge was left saddened in the past week or so by the death of some loved members of the community. John Hanrahan, well-known hotelier (Hotel Curracloe) died on Saturday, February 13, at his residence. He is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Mark, Mary and John Paul, brother, sisters, grandchild­ren and extended family members. His funeral took place to Curracloe cemetery on Monday, February 15.

The death also occurred on Saturday, February 13, of Bridget (Biddy) Sinnott, Ballyruan, Screen, a well-loved resident at Castlebrid­ge Manor nursing home. Her funeral took place on Tuesday, February 16.

On Sunday, February 14, the death occured at Wexford General hospital of Dympna Donohoe, Kilmacoe, Curracloe, wife of the late Joe, and Mother of Theresa, Mary Ann, Colette, Larry and Joseph. She will be sadly missed by them as well as her brother and sisters, grandchild­ren, great grandchild­ren, and extended family.

May their gentle souls rest in peace.

WALKING TRACK

A reminder that the walking track at Hollymount is open for all to use, from 9 a.m till 10 p m (with lights). A reminder to all to stay safe, stay healthy and stay active.

BIRTHDAY GIRL

Belated greetings and congratula­tions to Eileen Furlong, Curracloe, who celebrated her 90th birthday on February 6. John, Anthony, Patrick, Theresa, Áine, Andrew, Nicholas, Richard, Robert and all the extended family members send their congratula­tions to you. Eileen herself would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all who sent good wishes over the phone, by cards and video links. Unfortunat­ely, the celebratio­ns which were to take place on the night in the Roadhouse had to be put on hold, due to the lockdown restrictio­ns. We wish Eileen continued good health and happiness.

GAA LOTTO

Results of the Shelmalier GAA lotto for Monday, February 15, as follows. The numbers drawn were 14, 15, 24 and 29. There was no jackpot winner and no match-three winners. The jackpot is now worth over €15,000, with a one x €15,000 and two x €3,200 Rollover.

DEVELOPMEN­T LOTTO

Results of the Curracloe United AFC Developmen­t lotto for Sunday, February 14, are, as follows. The numbers drawn were 5, 10, 18 and 23. There was one jackpot winner, Kay Roche, Garrylough, who won €16,750. The seller was John Roche. There were three match-three winners who each received €50, James Gordon, Curracloe; Eamonn Larkin, c/o the club; and Adam and Louise Howlin, Ballinabla­ke. The jackpot now stands at €2,000.

OYLEGATE DRAIN THE SWAMP

The grass area in Oylegate School is waterlogge­d and unusable for the majority of the school year. Kids are packed into the school yard and they would love to get this much needed play area back. GAA NOTES

The club in conjunctio­n with Oylegate united are delighted to announce the continuati­on of community online bingo on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. which will raise funds for both groups – details of how to join are on our club Facebook page so for the next few weeks why not enjoy an hour’s fun on Sunday evenings and be in with a chance to win some money. If you’re not on Facebook and want to play, please contact Majella Doran or Keith Whelan. They will direct you in how to play.

This is the same book that you will play each week, so print out a few copies. €8 must be transferre­d before 7 p.m. each Friday night to be eligible for Sunday’s game.

Bingo will start at 8 p.m. sharp each Sunday evening.

Bingo will be live on YouTube and all numbers will be sent via a WhatsApp group (YouTube will become live at 7.30 p.m. each Sunday. A link will be in WhatsApp group).

You don’t need to be viewing YouTube to play. You can play off WhatsApp only.

When you are lucky enough to get a check you must text check and the number on which you have checked (example CHECK25) after checking you must send a picture of your full book to the bingo WhatsApp group where your check can be verified.

Checks can only go back four previous numbers a check on the fifth previous number will be null and void. All money won will be transferre­d via Revolut within 24 hours. The committee’s rulings are final. Have some fun and maybe win some money.

Covid-19 restrictio­ns – All public worship is currently suspended.

The church is open during the day for private prayer.

Please follow public health guidelines when visiting the church.

Funerals can only be held in private with a maximum of 10 mourners.

Weddings can only take place with a maximum of six people.

Baptisms are suspended for the duration of these restrictio­ns.

Masses can be offered in private for anniversar­ies or any intention.

You can have this done by dropping a note into the Parochial House with the details.

CLOTHES COLLECTION FOR CAMOGIE CLUB

Oylegate-Glenbrien camogie club are collecting unwanted clothes to raise money for our camogie club. We will be running this for the next couple of weeks, so if anyone is doing a cleanup during the lockdown please don’t forget that we are collecting these to raise much-needed funds for the camogie club. We will take unwanted clothes, paired shoes,curtains, blankets, etc. please place items in plastic bags and they can be dropped to Bernie Hayden, Oylegate at 087 2040402/Lillian Lawler, Ballymurn at 087 6395608. Or give a ring to arrange alternativ­e. Note: no wet clothing, duvets, pillows, socks or underwear.

WALKING TRACK

Due to popular demand the GAA walking track is now available, with lights every night Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This great facility is available free of charge to all members of the community, Due to health and safety no dogs are allowed (except guide dogs) and we ask all users to adhere to all Covid guidelines.

SACRAMENTS FOR THE HOUSEBOUND

Fr Byrne is happy to provide the sacraments of the church to anyone who may be housebound who wishes to receive them. Please contact the secretary at the parish office to arrange a time. The parish office is now open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Outside of these hours you can leave a message at 086 8259842.

FACE COVERINGS – DIOCESE OF FERNS

In solidarity with the vast majority of our fellow citizens who actively promote and pursue as safe an environmen­t as possible, the diocese now strongly recommends the wearing of face coverings in all its churches as public Masses and services continue.

GARDENS IN CHURCH GROUNDS

The gardens are a place for people to visit for a quite prayer or reflection during day light hours. Please NO litter, NO smoking, NO alcohol, NO drug use and no loitering after dark.

Local Link Wexford provides secure, reliable and affordable transport for the rural communitie­s of County Wexford. Services are open to everyone and all ages. The services will accommodat­e those attending appointmen­ts, shopping etc. Where possible they will collect passengers from their homes. An informatio­n booklet together with timetable is available at the back of the church.
