Tributes paid to ‘fun-loving’ Peter Winters
FRIENDS of the late Peter Winters have described him as a ‘fun-loving, kind-hearted’ person following his untimely passing on Saturday last.
Peter (28) had only recently come out of hospital following an illness and had been staying with his grandfather at the time of his death. One of his closest friends, Conor Whelan, said Peter had almost been like a family member in his house.
‘He was a very kind-hearted person, always good craic, there wasn’t a bad bone in his body,’ Conor said. ‘He used to come and stay with us and my entire family were mad about him, my brothers and sister, parents, aunts and uncles, he was almost like a member of the family in a way.’
Another of Peters’s close friends said the Bridgetown man was a talented rapper .
‘He was a good friend of mine,’ said Alan Kehoe. ‘I’d describe him as a fun-loving chap, he enjoyed his few drinks, loved rapping, there’s a few videos of him rapping going round on Facebook today. He was living with his grandfather because his mother wasn’t well.’
Local councillor Jim Codd had taught Peter at Bridgetown College and remembered his former pupil fondly.
‘I taught Peter in secondary school, but I remember before that Peter and his grandfather coming to me in the handball alley because he wanted to start playing handball,’ Cllr Codd said.
‘It saddened me to hear this horrible news, the whole community is in shock, Peter was wellloved by everyone in the area. This is another sad day for south Wexford, and these days have become all too common in recent times.’
Peter is survived by his mother Helen, grandfather John, uncle Joe, aunts Monica and Sinead, cousins, extended family and friends. A private family Mass will take place on Wednesday.
