DOWN MEMORY LANE

The Oulart Notes from March 24, 2004, reported on a St Patrick’s Day Concert presented by the pupils of Scoil Mochua, attended by their parents, families and friends. In the opening item the pupils from senior infants to Sixth Class displayed their skill in Bodhrán playing.

Music for the Irish dances was provided by Lisa and Leanne Murphy on fiddle and accordion while the dancers Dawn Greenwood, Orla and Dervla Nimmo, Ciara Donohoe, Shauna Dunne, Georgina Sutton, Lorraine Redmond and Leona Dwyer were a joy to watch.

Kevin Nimmo, on banjo, gave a lovely rendition of ‘Boolavogue’ and ‘The boys of Bluehill’ following which all the musicians combined to form the Scoil Mochua céilí Band to accompany the massed choir drawn from second to sixth classes who sang ‘Trasna na dTonnta’, ‘Báidín Fheidhleimí’, ‘The Black Velvet Band’ and ‘Ireland’s Call’.

Sixth Class then presented ‘The Wake’ a play about Famine time in Ireland while on the same theme the fourth and fifth classes enthralled the audience with mime and verse-speaking.
