IRELAND’S FITTEST FAMILY

Wow – what a final. We couldn’t be more proud of the O’Mahoney family from Barntown, who were crowned ‘Ireland’s Fittest Family’ in the recent series.

A massive congratula­tions to Joanne, Kevin, Conor and Alan for their super achievemen­t. The determinat­ion, commitment and drive shown by the lads, certainly gave us the exciting final we had hoped for.

And of course behind it all was Davy – encouragin­g, motivating, pushing, inspiring, heartening and doing everything else he does best. Well done, all.

OPERATION TRANSFORMA­TION

As the series drew to a close, Hazel Hartigan, native of Barntown absolutely nailed it, as she strutted down the catwalk to the

music of Bon Jovi for the Grand Finale. WOW, she looked amazing. What an inspiratio­n.

Proud Mom and Dad, Anne and Phil (Howlin), watched from home in Barntown, as their amazing girl grabbed the heart of the nation. A tear-jerker for sure. Keep going Hazel, you’re one in a million.

CAMOGIE CLUB BINGO

Over €1,700 in prizes were give out in our recent bingo session and we’re still feeling generous. In celebratio­n of our nominees for the Glen Fuel Teams of the Year, we paid out an extra €25 on a FULL HOUSE, if you checked out on any of the players’ numbers. JOHN NOMINATED FOR HURLER OF THE YEAR

John Leacy, Glynn-Barntown GAA player has been nominated for ‘Hurler of the Year’ sponsored by Glen Fuels – what an honour. Player of the Year Awards to air on Saturday, February 27. (results not available at time of print). Best of luck, lad.

SPLIT-THE-POT

Our weekly draw has now turned to a monthly one and will take place on the first Saturday of every month starting on Saturday March 6. The price remains unchanged at €5.

We really hope that we can turn this fundraisin­g split-the-pot into a big, exciting community event, in order to raise vital funds for the rebuilding and redecorati­ng of our beautiful community centre. Congratula­tions to Denise O’Leary, who was the winner of the Barntown Community Centre split-the-pot held on February 13. As an added bonus this week, Denise won the whole pot with her lucky number 15.

ST PATRICK’S DAY AUCTION

We are still accepting donations for our Community Fundraisin­g Auction. Can you donate to our Auction? Donation ideas; unwanted Christmas gifts, memorabili­a, chores around the home (eg mowing a lawn), a piece of art, a cake that you’ve baked, skills or services, a bottle of something, a hamper, a voucher or a profession­al consultati­on.

Your donation can be fun, fancy, fabulous and the list is as big as your imaginatio­n. The Community Auction will open online on Saturday, February 27, and will close on midnight on St Patrick’s Day. We’ve had some exciting donations so far.

BARNTOWN NS ENROLMENTS

We are now accepting enrolments for the 2021/2022 school year. For parents who have already received their enrolment forms please post them back to the school immediatel­y. We currently have two ASD classes, an Early Interventi­on (pre-school class) catering for children as young as 3 and four along with a class primary aged children. Applicatio­n to any of our classes can be made online by visiting our website barntownns.ie and click on Enrolments or by emailing info@barntownns.ie.

JERUSALEMA DANCE

The team at O’Brien’s Londis were inspired by An Garda Síochana’s Jerusalema Dance and decided to make their own. Using footage from a local beauty spot – Forth Mountain – the gang have a super video on the O’Brien’s Londis Facebook page which is worth a view and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. CHURCH NEWS

Thanks to Fr John and Sr. Helen for the service on February 21 which was streamed live on the Barntown Heritage Group Facebook page. The beautiful music was provided by Alice and James. Thanks to Paul B for his ongoing help with the technologi­cal side of things.

GYMNASTS’ WOMEN’S REFUGE FUNDRAISER.

A group of young Gymnasts from a local club are running 1000km during the month of February to raise funds for Wexford Women’s Refuge and their own Developmen­t Fund. (They receive no funding whatsoever and all proceeds go directly to them and not their club)

Each gymnast taking part in the event, will track their respective runs and updates will be posted on their Facebook page and their Instagram page @gymnastswi­thgoals.

Donations can be made on Facebook (GoFundMe page) or Buckets can be found at the tills in O’Brien’s Londis and at Supermac’s, Larkin’s Cross. Good luck with your joint fundraiser guys – you really are Gym Stars.

ROADWORKS

Major roadworks are ongoing on the N25 from Knockeen to Tomcool. To facilitate these works, there will be a ‘Stop and Go’ Traffic Management in operation on the N25 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Wednesday, January 27, for 10 weeks. Delays can be expected at peak times. These works are weather dependant and as such the dates and times may be subject to change at short notice.

Major roadworks continue on the N11 Ferrycarri­g Bridge to Maldron Hotel Roundabout. Stop/Go traffic management in operation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Delays can be expected at peak times and the completion date/working times of these works are weather dependent and may change.
